PALESTINE

Iran's Israel-countering proxy in the Palestine conflict, Hamas chose Yahya Sinwar, as the new leader of its political bureau, following the assassination of the former leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran. Sinwar is recognized as the mastermind of the October 7 attacks in Israel, which claimed the lives of 1140 Israelis, and had Hamas abducting a group of 200 that when not released, led to the launch of the Israeli offensive which in a matter of 10 months caused the invasion of Gaza and death of 40,000 Palestinians.
