The winner behind the contested parliamentary elections is a shadowy billionaire, Bidzina Ivanishvili, of the ruling Georgian Dream party. He is Georgia's richest man and one-time pro-Western Prime Minister, whose party has since the war in Ukraine drifted towards Russia while becoming increasingly authoritarian.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban was booed in Tbilisi following his congratulatory remarks that praised the contested election as "free and democratic." Orban was hosted by Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, who called Hungary “an ardent supporter of Georgia on the path to European integration”, which he said, “played a special role in securing Georgia's candidate status”. Protested in the EU for his pro-Russian stance, Orban was criticized by 13 EU foreign ministers who did not see him speaking on behalf of the EU.

Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have killed 124 people in a village in El Gezira state in what reports suggest to be one of the deadliest incidents in the 18-month-long civil war in the country. The RSF’s attacks which came between 20 and 25 October involved shooting, looting, and committing sexual violence against women and girls. The move came just days after a top RSF commander defected to the Army with his forces. With the two sides fighting to gain more power and territories, the people of Sudan are bearing the brunt.
