Algeria’s Paris 2024 delegation at the Olympic Games has paid a rose tribute to victims of the 1961 massacre of independence protesters in Paris by French police. More than 300 demonstrators were killed, many of them thrown into the Seine River in what French President Emmanuel Macron has called “inexcusable” acts. The French parliament has recently approved a resolution condemning the 1961 atrocity as a "bloody and murderous repression by Paris police of dozens of Algerians in a crackdown on a 1961 protest to support Algerian independence".
