Georgia celebrated its Independence Day in the capital’s Freedom Square with a lofty military parade, days ahead of a new vote on the controversial “foreign agents” law that was initially cleared by Georgia’s parliament last week but then was quickly vetoed by the country’s president Salome Zurabishvili. In her address to the public, the president said: “Today, as the specter of Russia looms over us, partnership and rapprochement with Europe are the true path to preserving and strengthening our independence and peace.”

Having left Morocco for France at age 11, Benlarbi mentions his immigrant experience having inspired the feature that has won over twenty awards and a nomination for a César Award.
