Ukraine says Russia has attacked residential areas in Odesa. Ukraine’s main grain port has been repeatedly targeted since Russia pulled out of the Black Sea grain export deal last year. Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 14 Shahed-136 drones and fired four S-300 air defense missiles. Defense systems downed 11 in Odesa and Mykolaiv.

Chechen soldiers in occupied Melitopol almost shot Russian military men as they were patrolling a checkpoint. The stopped Chechen soldiers were asked for documentation and the Chechen Commander of the Vostok-Akhmat battalion, Vakha Khambulatov, leaped out of the vehicle and attacked the troop, threatening the Russian soldier with execution.

Serbia is the latest to flex its military ambitions, announcing its largest investment ever in ammunition. Serbia's President Aleksander Vucic said the buildup is in response to US plans to sell Javelin anti-tank missiles to Kosovo.

For nine months, the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have been fighting for control. More than five million people have been displaced in the war. Both sides are accused of forcibly disappearing civilians - and torturing them in detention centers. They deny the allegations. The rights group - Sudan Emergency Lawyers - says what’s happening is inhumane and in breach of international law.
