TÜRKİYE

May 1st, or May Day, also known as Labor Day is celebrated in Turkiye as the day for the working class to speak the loudest to voice their call. Istanbul's Taksim Square holds historical significance on this day as it was the site of a tragic incident in 1977 where at least 34 people were killed during a rally. Since then, May 1st rallies have been organized in other locations, but this year, despite the ruling, thousands of protesters tried to gather in Taksim Square and clashed with the police. A group of 42,000 servicemen dispersed protesters using tear gas and rubber bullets. 217 were arrested for attempting to break through the barricade. Labor Day celebrations reportedly drew in 240,000 nationwide.

Foreign Influence Bill
GEORGIA

Georgia is at a political crossroads. There is widespread anger on the streets over a bill that seeks to curb foreign funding of non-governmental organizations. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze says it is necessary to block external influences. But protesters say the legislation would silence critics of the government, ahead of parliamentary elections in October. European leaders have also criticized the bill, which feeds the concern that the crisis will undermine Goergia's ambition to join the European Union.

Serbia and Russia Strongly Reject UN Srebrenica Genocide Resolution
BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA

The Srebrenica genocide resolution vote at the UN has been postponed for the second time. If adopted, July the 11th would be designated 'The International Day of Remembrance of the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide'. The resolution has been put forward by Rwanda and Germany and sponsored by the US, Italy, France, Turkiye, and many other countries, including all Western Balkan countries. However, Serbia and Bosnian Serbs are strongly lobbying against it in the UN. Aided by Russia, Bosnian Serbian factions argue that the resolution has been put forward without Serb entity approval.

They include allowing the Ennahdha political party to reopen its headquarters, guaranteeing the independence of the electoral commission and freeing imprisoned politicians.
