AFRICA
With observers from the UN, African Union, Egypt, and the UAE in attendanceü the US-led Geneva Peace Talks are underway under the leadership of Tom Perriello, the US Special Envoy for Sudan. The warring parties however, namely the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have declined to participate and are boycotting the effort. The Sudanese civil war, which began in April 2023, is already one of the world’s worst conflicts with thousands of deaths and the displacement of over 10.7 million people.

ARABIA
The United States said that it would resume sales of offensive weapons to Saudi Arabia, ending a year's long suspension. More than three years after imposing limits on human rights grounds over Saudi strikes in Yemen, the Biden administration said that it would return to weapons sales "in regular order, with appropriate congressional notification and consultation." Saudi Arabia has sought US security guarantees, a continued flow of weapons and potentially a civilian nuclear deal if it normalises relations with Israel.
